The Premier League and Manchester City are reportedly facing another massive delay in the outcome of the “trial of the century,” with a verdict potentially pushed back by a further 12 months.

The private hearing into the 115 charges—which some sources suggest is actually closer to 130—was completed in December 2024. However, despite the proceedings finishing, journalist Martin Lipton claims the complexity of the case means the football world might not get an official answer until 2027.
The charges, which City strongly deny, date back to 2009 and cover alleged breaches regarding financial reporting and secret payments to staff. While Pep Guardiola initially expected a resolution by March 2025, he recently admitted that he is still in the dark as the wait continues.

If the independent commission finds the club guilty, the punishment could be catastrophic, with punishments ranging from record-breaking points deductions to being kicked out of the Premier League entirely.
